Red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle)
It is a viviparous tree with waders and aerial roots known as candelillas and hanging from the branches. It is generally found in places that are always flooded, it does not tolerate high salinities for long periods of time, so it develops better in places with periodic contributions. of fresh water. It is a tree or bush between 2 to 25 meters high, which in some cases reaches 35 meters. It is characterized by its roots in the form of stilts, aerial roots, simple and opposite leaves.
Black mangrove (Avicennia germinans)
Its leaves are elongated and narrow, bright green on the front and on the underside is light gray. It grows in flooded places and with higher salinities, unlike red and white mangroves. It is a meliferous tree, so in the black mangrove forests you can find many hives.
These trees reach up to 20 meters high and have dark gray or black outer bark. Its leaves are yellowish green, often with hairs and salt crystals on the back. The flowers are small and white, while the fruit is oval, flattened and fluffy.
White mangrove (Laguncularia racemosa)
The white mangrove is a tree up to 20 meters high with fissured bark. Its leaves are 4 to 10 cm long, with reddish stems and two glands placed on both sides of the stem.
The white mangrove is a crypto-viviparous tree and grows in flooded areas. It requires periodic contributions of fresh water. It is distinguished because its trunks are straight and long, its roots are aerial but do not hang from the branches, they are born from the base of the trunk. The propagules are oval and flattened.
